The story is uncomplicated, the dancing superb with the required happy ending. The music and the dancing is still fun to watch, even if the relationship is a car wreck. If you are in the mood for feel-good teen angst with dancing and better music watch the original classic "Footloose". Really, the whole film is played like a 90-minute ad for MTV!

Personaly what makes a good film for me is that it is enjoyable, entertaining, gripping, likable and emotional. Needless to say the soundtrack is brilliant. All it is is sexual innuendo, sex and bad dancing. Took me back in time, and remembered how much I enjoyed the music, and rockn' those torn sweatshirts when the movie was first released. No rhythm, no tempo, didn't even look nice. Anxious about his future after high school, a 19-year-old Italian-American from Brooklyn tries to escape the harsh reality of his bleak family life by dominating the dance floor at the local disco. I can't take it. It's a timeless feel good movie. Seriously, the best dancing of the whole movie was in the intro scene, the rest is just jerky, flailing around and falling on the ground. I was a kid in the 80's and never got to watch this movie until now. About 3/4 the way through I saw a glimmer of a piece of some kind of storyline - she wanted to get into dance school. Alex Owens is a female dynamo: steel worker by day, exotic dancer by night. Wow. Jennifer Beals is really only so-so in the leading role, and her leading man Michael Nouri is no better off, but it doesn't matter.
That being said this re-mastered version is a joy & the extras include some incredible insights from some of the Stars & it is revealed that the famous dance audition scene was actually cut using 4 different people (& a major revelation) I remember there was some controversy surrounding the fact that the real dancer who did the dancing for Alex was never given any credit. Now he's strutting toward his biggest challenge yet: succeeding as a dancer on the Broadway stage. I stopped watching with about 15 minutes left of the movie because I just couldn't watch it anymore.
