Everybody knows not to look into a laser, or point it into your pet or friend's eye.... but many people (especially kids!) All I had to do is position the laser beam diffused with a lens over my samples and tape a red lighting filter over the microscope lens. So far the pen works, the laser is strong, but will see once the battery dies. If you have kids, keep it in the locked position when not in use, be a responsible adult. Highly recommend. Makes a really incredible bright beam... see attached photo I snapped with my phone.

I would never trust this item with a young person unless they were wearing appropriate eye protection to reduce the risk from accidental exposure to the beam REFLECTING off a surface. What mW laser will burn? Also I never provide reviews on products but for this SAM LITE I thought I'd let you in on a little secret, great product for a great price. My thoughts are this laser isn't strong enough to cause any issues and now that I've used it' you'd just about have to point it at an aircraft on purpose...and those would be low flying ones to boot.

I can see why you’d need a lock on it, it’s so bright it almost hurts just looking at the dot. I was very disappointed.I rely on reviews so I try to post them. The first red lasers was released in the early 1980s. You would have to keep it close for the smaller dot. Light is strong and bright.
