In 2016, wind energy took the second place among RES in terms of total electricity generation, accounting for 38.3% of RES electricity and 9% of total electricity generation in Greece. A national target of a 20% RES share in gross final energy consumption by 2020 has been defined under Law 3851/2010, exceeding the national target of 18% according to the EU Directive 2009/28/EC.
