A long while later, my friend gifted it to me....it is one of my favorite Total Wars in the collection. I was originally disapointed but I might be happy with it coming back...Nope it still sucks.

Rome 2 is good now, even if the AI is a bit derp.
And honestly the unit cards and weird new added units that are identical to other ones and server seemingly no purpose put me off it.I was also there at launch, and have been playing off and on ever since. I would not be surprised if one pops up around the time Attila comes out to promote the franchise.

I played it obsessively and enjoyed playing as the Romans (all 3 factions) and the Greek City States (love the phalanx combat). They could still probably use a few more units in the main campaign for some factions, but on the whole I think it’s on par with the other historical total war games now. Rome 2 disappointed me on release. Immediately started a new campaign as the dwarves.I still see Rome 2 posts all the time on here. Its tons of fun. Shogun 2 is much better but Rome 2 is better than it was and it only took 15 patches I think. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a spare morning so after wandering past the Arch of Constantine, w… Sometimes you'd run up against a nation that was a little tougher to crack, but eventually you just bought a bigger hammer.Attila was the first game where I had to think different and felt real change happening in the world. Thanks for all the responses, I think I'm going to wait until Attila comes out and hope there is a good sale on Rome II. A lot of new events and political dynamics were added. So I avoided the release of Rome 2.

Combat has found its unique identity, being slower paced than other recent games allowing for a lot of maneuverability and the addition of much requested Guard Mode smoothes controls out to the norm of past games. I didn't have the money at the time. The AI was retarded in battle.

I played WH2 for one campaign and went back to R2Who did you play as, who was your favorite faction to play as?At this point yes. If that is the roman times, I think I would say Rome 2 over the first Rome: Total War game now.But as many others said wait for a sale. If you want, you can try DeI, as Rome II, together with Empire, can be enjoyed only with mods.I have lot of fun with Rome 2 mostly vanilla.

I'd wait for a sale though unless you really want it right now. There is also Attila coming out next month (and apparently costs less than Rome 2). I just couldnt get into it. Attila TW + Age of Charlemagne expansion goes for ~$15 at 3rd party resellers like CD keys (half the price of RTW2). Such a person should be able to sit down, put their thinky-thought brain-cells on, and enjoy a few rounds of a thougthful Total War strategic campaign. Ive owned every TW game to date but have thankfully waited long periods of time before buying them.

The added campaign should give it some longevity and if I really like it later on, Ill see about the other campaigns. If you've already played that, then yea, I'd recommend Rome 2. I played it obsessively and enjoyed playing as the Romans (all 3 factions) and the Greek City States (love the phalanx combat). If there's any Total War game, you should play that.

Play as the Eastern Romans, and you chuckle at West Rome falling apart, but then you see you're not far behind them anyway.

That's not saying I dislike the other games, but if you boil them down, all TW games up to Attila was about conquest and painting the map. I played Rome 2 when it came out, extremely excited as Rome 1 was my introduction to the series way back then. Some of the problems are still there (the combat can still be blobby at times, generals are still forgettable at times, the trait system is very limited in comparison with other titles, armies still retreat past mountains/rivers or through your armies) but if you already own the game and haven't played it in a while, I'd recommend you try firing up a grand campaign.
